Pinterest Challenge: Discovery in a Bottle

That's right, I've taken the Pinterest Challenge! This was a brilliant idea thought up by Mrs. Katie Bower. Teaming up with fellow bloggers, a plan was made to actually create something from all those eye candy photos we love. Instead of simply pinning, it's time to create something from your inspirations. If new to the Pinterest world, you can check out my last post about it here.

I have jumped on board with these lovely ladies and tackled the challenge. Since I work with kiddos day in and day out I decided to create some nifty discovery bottle.

Here's is the original picture I pinned from Pinterest. The picture and tutorial was from an excellent family friendly blog Meet The Dubiens .

I decided to also use the Voss water bottles. I had to pay $5.99 from Home Goods for a pack of six, but I thought it was worth it for the long term use of the bottles. They are very sturdy, no ridges like most bottled waters, and are easier for little curious minds to view what's inside them.

Inside the bottles:

From the top

1. water and a beaded neckalce

2. water and foam numbers and letters

3. water and glitter

4. water and mixed beads

5. water and nature elements (rocks and fake leaves)

6. water and ribbon

It's amazing what you can find laying around the house for these things!

Next, I began to work on the holder for the bottles.

Materials:

Here's how it's done...

Glue scrapbook paper to sides

I had some left over blue spray paint that I used to spray the handle

Total Expense:

Voss Water $6

Scrapbook paper $.50

Glue had at home FREE

Items in bottles found around the house FREE

Holder ready to head to trash FREE

Total= $6.50

There you have it friends. Hope you enjoy! I'm linked up with Katie, Sherry, Emily, and Lana; check out their projects also.

Zoo Keeper: Luckily he hasn't tried yet. So far no problem :o) I guess if your a Mama with a kiddo that loves to tear paper may need a stronger glue. Thanks for stopping by.

great usage of the bottle, but how did you remove the print from the glass?

Yes, I have the same question! How did you remove the lettering from the bottles?

If you add a few drops of glycerin, it makes the things in the bottles float around a little more slowly.

Hi Ladies! these are plastic bottles, so all I had to do was peel the sticker off. Thanks Annie for the info :o)

Lemon juice normally removes print, not sure if this is how it was done in this case

How did you keep your kids from opening the bottles and spilling water/glitter on the carpet? I'd love to try this.

Brooke said...

I put a lil dab of super glue into the lids (standing the bottle up right of course and once dry...wahla :o) Hope this helps!

Cute cute idea for the water bottles. I also must applaud the Pinterest challenge. I personally will not pin something unless I am making it or have made it. I use Pinterest as a bookmarking tool.

These are awesome! Greay job. i think I'll have to tackle this as well.

Can I ask how you took the Voss label off and got them so clean?

These bottles are impossible to find in plastic. Where did you get them? I have only found them in glass.

I attempted a glitter bottle and the glitter just clumped at the top. Any tips?!? These are great!

Love the idea of filling the bottles with water and watch the items float around instead of packing the bottles full! I featured your bottles on my blog post: http://www.needlesandbows.com/2013/10/coloured-sensory-bottles/

My husband drinks "Boost", "Ensure". These products come in little bottles just right for a curious kiddo.... I think. I am trying this idea as we speak. My granddaughter will get a chance to play with one filled with water and buttons. I have glued the lid in place and additionally I believe i will place packing tape or duct tape around the lid just to make sure that these buttons do not find their way to her mouth.

These look great but I made some for my playschool class and put them in plastic bottles. The glass may be easier for them to see into but if they were to drop and break one or drop one of their foot, you would be in big trouble. The plastic bottles you can see through just as good as long as you get smooth bottles and get all the residue off from the labels. I just know at playschool it would be a safety issue.

Great idea... Curious though, did you use nything to secure cap from coming unscrewed?
